Anne Hathaway is Teaching All Our Girls an Important Lesson

By now, you may have seen Matt Lauer’s interview with Anne Hathaway on the Today Show where, instead of focusing on her upcoming movie Les Miserables, he decided it was better to mock her about a recent “wardrobe malfunction.”

Why do I care about this episode? It’s not because I think Hathaway needs my help. She did just fine on her own killing Lauer with her kindness and grace. I’m writing about this because my daughter, who is about to turn 13, is also starting to learn about how men try to objectify women and their bodies.

How is that possible for a seventh grader?

I don’t usually post excerpts from other places I write here at The Broad Side, but I’ve received such a lovely response to my Spin Cycle column at Babble Voices, I thought I’d give readers of The Broad Side a head’s up about it, as well!

I hope you’ll click over and read the rest there. Enjoy!

One Response to Anne Hathaway is Teaching All Our Girls an Important Lesson

What an excellent post. I haven’t seen The Today Show since Ann Curry was let go so I didn’t see this. Anne Hathaway did a great job in answering that question. How awful that your teenage daughter and her friend had to be subjected to the rude cat-calls from these so-called “men.” Your takeaways are spot on and I must say that your daughter is super blessed to have a mom like you.
