How Do We Explain Trayvon Martin Murder to Our Kids?

There are many great women’s voices at iVillage as part of a series called iVoices.  They weigh in on a variety of topics.  Many have been talking about the election, but this week iVoice Brandi Jeter posted a very thought-provoking video on the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida.

What do you think? I commented at POLITICO Arena, wondering why the Justice Department isn’t investigating now, because it’s clear to me that this murder was also a hate crime. And as the mother of a daughter of color, how do I explain this kind of hate and her inevitable question of whether this could ever happen to her because of the amount of hate connected to race in our country?
