Hurray for Hollywood: Two Throwback Cocktails For Your Oscar Party

Academy Awards drinks, Drinks for the Oscars, Marlene Dietrich, Charlie Chaplan, drinking games for the OscarsSure, Neil Patrick Harris is hosting Sunday’s 87th annual Academy Awards, and he should keep our attention from waning too much. And that’s certainly a good thing!

But while today’s stars will strut down the red carpet in all of their designer glory, some of us long for Hollywood’s black-and-white glamor days. In honor of Hollywood’s past, here are two throwback cocktails to serve at your Oscar party this weekend. Cheers to Charlie Chaplin and Marlene Dietrich!

Marlene Dietrich Cocktail

No girly drinks for this starlet. I am, at heart, a gentleman,” Marlene Dietrich once said.

3/4 wineglass of rye or Canadian whiskey
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes curacao

1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice.
2. Add whiskey, bitters and curacao.
3. Shake.
4. Strain into a cocktail glass.
5. Squeeze orange and lemon peel on top.

 

Charlie Chaplin Cocktail

This little tramp will make your mustache wiggle.

1 1/2 ounces lime juice1 1/2 ounces sloe gin
1 1/2 ounces apricot brandy

1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice.
2. Add lime juice, sloe gin and apricot brandy.
3. Shake
4. Strain into a cocktail glass.
