‘I Jiggle Therefore I Am’ is the Ad We Should Have Watched Instead of ‘Run Like A Girl’

This Girl Can, Throwing Like a Girl, Super BowlLeading up to the Super Bowl I caught wind there’d be an ad campaign about “running like a girl.” The point: there’s nothing inherently wrong with moving your legs quickly while girling. You know, girl power! During the Super Bowl. YESSS! USA Today said Run Like a Girl was the best Super Bowl ad. And then the buzzkill happened: by Always.

A commercial for pads?! I couldn’t help but feel like Ralphie in A Christmas Story with his Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring, furiously scribbling only to find out the whole thing was a crummy scam by Ovaltine. “Son of bitch.”

You know who does ads for women and girls right? This Girl Can.

There are no apologies for jiggling, no forced approval from boys or men, no pauses where someone has to think long and hard that a mother/daughter/sister is a girl too and they should cut the rest of us some slack.

This Girl Can is a U.K.-based group that celebrates all women moving everywhere. And with Missy owning the Super Bowl last night, featuring her music in their ad was the right call.
