Let’s Talk Abortion in America

When we think of abortion in America, there is a certain negative stereotypical stigma that is associated with the medical procedure. But the problem is, often those are not only inaccurate, but completely unfounded. So, I decided to put together a post with quite a few infographs breaking down who exactly is having abortions in America. The findings may shock you, just as they shocked me.

Most of the women are completely average. Yes, just like you and me who are sitting here reading this post. Most already have children, consider themselves religiously affiliated, and find themselves to be poor. In fact, this next graphic will dive into the connection between abortion and poverty a little more.

Not only does poverty play an impact on abortions, it also plays a role in the time frame of when women obtain their abortions. I find it fascinating that more women would choose to end their pregnancies earlier if they had access to the money for the procedure. I think we can all agree, the earlier the better when it comes to this kind of a choice.

But last let us talk about the racial and ethnic disparities.

The last graphic shows the clear cut racial barriers when it comes to abortion. There are a number of conclusions that could be made from these numbers, but I would guess, especially in the “unintended pregnancy” category, that these women don’t have access to proper health care and birth control. Resulting in these unintended pregnancies.
