That’s a pretty sad state of affairs, considering all the important issues that our elected officials are (supposedly) working on — immigration reform, minimum wage changes and paid family leave, just to name a few.
And accoring to the Center for the Study of the American Electorate, which put out the study, “convenience voting” — early voting, voting by mail, registration on election day, etc. — hasn’t helped to improve turnout.
What the CSAE report doesn’t really address is how to explain the deeply-entrenched apathy of American voters, especially when it comes to primary elections in non-presidential election years. Each election cycle, new efforts for getting out the vote (better known in politically wonky circles as GOTV), but apparently those don’t help much in elections years like the one we’re in now.
So if that’s the case, does White House really believe new First Lady video is going to convince the million voters they are looking for to inform themselves enough to feel like it’s worth voting in the November mid-term election?
What other kind of leadership effort could FLOTUS focus on that might get people to actually vote? Or, for that matter, how can any of us help to change that?
