If 2008 was the Year of the Woman, we’ve progressed to the Millennium of the Woman. Not only are women gaining clout in the traditional workplace, they have created their own workplace and leadership roles out of nothing more than audacity and their unique and powerful gifts and talents.
Women aren’t following the patriarchal business model. As reported in my piece about the Mom-conomy and creating a mom-centric micro-economy, women are inventing entirely new careers and an innovative way of doing business. They create their businesses around their lives. As opposed to the patriarchal model of squeezing in a life around their careers.
When women step into their own power and assume leadership (rather than waiting around for some male authority to grant it) and launch their own companies, well then the patriarchal is robbed of its control over women’s prosperity and autonomy.
Women entrepreneurs are realizing that the patriarchal corporate world has no power over them when they launch their own companies they start believing: I don’t work for you. Why should I care how much power you think I should have or what hours you say I should work or how much money you think I’m worthy of?
It’s liberating to reject and walk away from their business model, rather than begging to be “equally” included in their model. (Eh hem, I’ve never been able to comprehend why feminists believe that “equal pay” rights the wrongs of 2,000 years of abuse, repression, aggression and economic disparity.)
As I was saying, entrepreneurship is the answer to the emerging women’s model of business and lifestyle. I’m excited to be attending the Emerging Women Conference in Denver in October 2013. The tagline is Changing the World: Through Feminine Leadership and Entrepreneurship.
“Today we no longer have to compromise our femininity in order to be successful,” the Emerging Women website declares. I’ve been declaring that our femininity is precisely the essence of how women will save the world for years now, so I am excited to attend a conference based around this truth. “Feminine power is on the rise, many women are feeling called to a new kind of work life—one where we can be fully expressed and supported in our lifestyle choices. With technology made more accessible every day, the barriers to starting and growing a business are shrinking and many women are choosing entrepreneurship as a path to a career of meaning and purpose, creative expression and financial success.”
And the speakers. I am so excited about the speaker lineup: Elizabeth Gilbert, Alanis Morrisette, Brené Brown, Eve Ensler, Tara Sophia Mohr, Ani DiFranco, Tami Simon, Kelly McGonigal, Roya Mahboob, Kristin Neff, Sobonfu Somé, Emily Horn and my own business coach mentor, the world-changer Christine Kane.
Women are Emerging. It’s exciting! It’s practically a revolution of ovarian proportions! Get in the game with all of your glorious femininity! Power Up the Feminine!
