There are many stories written about the men who have endured multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, but few about the women who have served there. Journalist Helen Thorpe has written a book entitled “Soldier Girls” that tells the stories of three women from three different generations who served multiple tours in Afghanistan because of the wars we found ourselves in after the September 11 attacks.
“Soldier Girls” is a story not just about military service; it’s also a tale of navigating motherhood, relationships and life when you’re thousands of miles from home in a desert and how life is, or isn’t, managed when you return.
